During a second localizer approach to runway 10, which is 5,004 feet long and 100 feet wide, the aircraft touched down approximately 1,000 feet from the approach end. According to the pilot, the first 1,500 feet after touchdown appeared normal, but upon applying brakes, the aircraft behaved as if on ice, indicating hydroplaning. The pilot attempted pumping the brakes without effect. Noticing an obstruction (localizer antenna) at the end of the runway, the pilot decided to steer right of it, entering the grass.

Sequence of Events

Once in the grass, the aircraft slid sideways to the right, then regained a more positive straight-ahead tracking.
