Event Description
The aircraft was descending with the seat belt sign illuminated. A flight attendant had completed a walk-through and returned to her seat, waiting for the 10-out call, but was not wearing her seat belt at the time. The airplane then encountered turbulence, causing the flight attendant to be thrown from her seat. Her head struck the ceiling of the cabin, and as she descended, her back hit the jumpseat, which had retracted.
Circumstances
At the time of the event, the aircraft's weather radar was operating normally. No reports of turbulence had been received along the route of flight, and the flight had been smooth both before and after the turbulence encounter. The flight attendant's actions and the turbulence event led to her impacting the ceiling and jumpseat.
