Incident Overview
A Cessna aircraft, engaged in towing a glider, was involved in a midair collision with a Grob glider. At the time of the accident, the Cessna was executing a climbing turn with an approximate 10-degree right bank, having reached an altitude of roughly 1,000 feet. The Grob glider, which was in a descending turn with an approximate 15-degree right bank, was observed approaching from the 11:00 position relative to the towed glider's perspective.
Witness Account
The pilot of the glider being towed, who served as a witness, assessed that the Cessna and the Grob were on a collision course. He subsequently released from the tow aircraft. Following his release, he witnessed the two aircraft collide. The witness reported that the Cessna entered a spin and descended to the ground. He did not observe the Grob after the impact, but noted fluttering debris in the area.
Equipment
Both the Cessna and the Grob were equipped with communication radios at the time of the incident.
