Accident Summary

A Piper PA-28R-201 was observed during its takeoff run on a runway oriented 090-270 magnetic. A witness stationed at the departure end of runway 09 reported that the aircraft became airborne approximately 1,000 feet down the 2,500-foot usable airstrip. After lifting off, the airplane climbed to an estimated 35 to 50 feet above ground level and continued down the runway without gaining further altitude. The witness described the aircraft as wobbling and veering to the left before crashing into trees and exploding.
