Accident Overview
The aircraft overran the departure end of the runway, striking an airport boundary fence and an automobile. The pilot provided a written statement describing the sequence of events.
Pilot Statement
The pilot reported a "high approach to runway 27" and touching down "approximately half way down the runway." A decision was made to initiate a go-around. The pilot added full power, set the mixture to rich, and positioned the propeller for takeoff. The subsequent forced landing concluded with the aircraft impacting the fence at the departure end of runway 27. The pilot then deplaned the aircraft.
Investigation Findings
A video recording of the accident site revealed black marks beginning from the runway numbers of Runway 05, extending across a north-south road, and leading toward the main wreckage. The threshold of Runway 05 is displaced by 315 feet. Examination of the cockpit controls showed the throttle, mixture, and propeller controls were all in the forward position. The fence was found wrapped around the aircraft's spinner and behind the propeller hub. The trailing edge flaps were set to 10 degrees. The engine was subsequently run on the airframe, and no anomalies were noted.
