Accident Overview
The accident occurred during departure from an 800-foot-long grass-covered airstrip. The certificated private pilot was at the controls. According to the pilot's statement, the airplane's main landing gear tires contacted tall grass about midway down the airstrip during the takeoff roll.
Sequence of Events
After contacting the tall grass, the airplane veered to the left. The left wing subsequently struck a stand of trees bordering the airstrip. Following the impact, the airplane pivoted 180 degrees to the left, causing the right main landing gear to collapse. The right wing then struck the terrain.
Damage and Mechanical Status
The airplane sustained substantial damage as a result of the ground impact. The pilot noted that there were no preaccident mechanical anomalies with the airplane.
