Event Description
A helicopter was conducting a westbound pinnacle approach when the pilot encountered settling with power. The pilot decided to abort the approach and initiate a go-around. During the go-around maneuver, an audio warning for low rotor rpm sounded.
Descent and Terrain Clearance
The helicopter continued to settle despite the go-around attempt. At the time of the low rpm warning, the aircraft was already below the pinnacle. To avoid the rising terrain, the pilot executed a right turn aiming for lower ground. However, the descent could not be arrested, and the helicopter was unable to clear the terrain. The aircraft subsequently made a hard landing.
