A private certificated pilot was conducting a takeoff from a small ridge line located at 2,700 feet mean sea level. The usable area of the ridge measured approximately 475 feet in length and 40 feet in width. Prior to beginning the takeoff, the pilot positioned the airplane by pushing the tail to the rear edge of the usable area.

Takeoff and Descent
