Departure and First Landing Attempt
The Beechcraft F33A departed using the full length of the runway. After departure, it returned to land. The first touchdown occurred about mid-field on the runway, after which the airplane began to bounce several times for the entire remaining length of the runway before achieving a positive climb rate. The airplane then continued around the traffic pattern for a second approach.
Second Landing Attempt and Runway Excursion
On the second approach, the airplane again touched down about mid-field and began to bounce several times. It continued bouncing until it departed the end of the runway.
Pilot Background and Statement
The pilot held approximately 16,000 total flight hours, with 73 hours in the F33A, of which 6 hours were in the previous 90 days. The day after the accident, the pilot explained that he had lost his wife, with whom he had been together since 1934, the previous week. He further stated that "people make too many excuses today for their actions, and this accident was just plain and simply his fault."
