Flight Purpose and Witness Observations
The purpose of the flight was for a private pilot to practice commercial maneuvers under a flight instructor's supervision in a twin-engine airplane. Witnesses reported the airplane spiraling downward at a 45-degree angle until it disappeared behind trees. The Civil Air Patrol located the wreckage in an open field the following day.
Wreckage and Site Details
The airplane came to rest intact and upright. The accident site had two ground scars: one directly below the tail tie-down ring and another one foot aft of the left wing tip. The wings displayed no chordwise impact damage. The landing gear and flaps were found extended. No pre-accident anomalies were noted.
Maneuver Reference Manual Information
According to the operator's maneuver reference manual and the instructor's lesson plans, the only maneuvers requiring extended landing gear and flaps were slow flight, power-off stalls, and emergency descents.
