Accident Overview
A commercial pilot participating in a group fly-in from Aurora, Oregon, to Lebanon, Oregon, failed to arrive at the intended destination. After the pilot did not return home, family members contacted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), initiating a search for the pilot and aircraft.
Wreckage Discovery
The following day, the aircraft wreckage was located in a wooded area southeast of Molalla, Oregon. The aircraft had collided with mountainous terrain and was destroyed in the impact.
Investigation
Post-accident examination of the airplane and engine revealed no evidence of a preexisting mechanical malfunction or failure. The investigation did not identify a specific cause for the accident.
