Witness Account
A witness traveling south on Kansas State Highway 14 from Beloit, Kansas, reported observing an airplane flying very low north of the highway. The witness stated the airplane appeared to be attempting to land, then rose rapidly as it approached the highway, as if to clear power lines. Subsequently, the airplane made an abrupt dive and crashed into a field at a sharp angle.
Pilot and Aircraft Records
Airplane records indicated that the pilot's last flight in the accident airplane occurred on May 1, 1999. Federal Aviation Administration medical records showed that the pilot's last medical certificate was issued on August 31, 1994.
Examination
An examination of the airplane revealed no anomalies.

The investigation did not identify a probable cause for the accident.
