Flight History
The pilot departed from an airport en route to another airport located 24.5 miles to the south/southeast for an annual maintenance inspection of the airplane. Prior to departure, the pilot did not receive a weather briefing.
Approach and Maneuvering
Upon arrival at the destination airport, low clouds and an overcast fog layer had developed. The pilot circled the area to find better ground visibility, but none was found. Subsequently, the pilot attempted to return to the departure airport for landing.
Engine Failure and Off-Airport Landing
While maneuvering to maintain visual conditions for the landing, the engine lost power due to fuel starvation. Attempts to restart the engine were unsuccessful. Unable to reach the airport, the pilot performed an off-airport landing between a house and a tree. Upon impact with the ground, the airplane nosed over.
