Event Details
During the approach to Runway 29, the pilot reported that he was on a right base leg when the airplane overshot the turn to final. To realign with the runway centerline, he increased the bank angle. As a result, the airplane suddenly entered an accelerated stall approximately 200 feet above the ground and subsequently struck the runway.
Pilot Report
The pilot stated that after overshooting the turn, he attempted to correct by increasing the bank. The accelerated stall occurred abruptly, leading to the impact with the runway surface.
FAA Inspector Report
An FAA inspector reported that the airplane touched down on the centerline of Runway 29, specifically in the middle of the displaced threshold. Following touchdown, the airplane departed the right side of the runway and came to rest. A small fire developed under the fuselage, which was extinguished by responding personnel.
