Dual-Engine Fuel Starvation During Final Approach (N8472N)

Incident Overview and Damage Assessment During final approach to runway 6, the aircraft was approximately 100 feet above the ground and one-quarter mile from the intended touchdown point when both engines lost power. The pilot executed a forced landing in a nearby pasture. During this maneuver, the main landing gear was torn from the airframe, and the airplane sustained major structural damage. The pilot did not report any component failure prior to the forced landing in the field. The aircraft had accumulated only approximately three hours of flight time before the dual-engine power loss occurred. ## Investigation Findings and Operational Context Examination of the aircraft revealed that the engines failed due to fuel starvation. The pilot had used fuel from the auxiliary fuel tanks en route to the destination airport and switched the fuel selectors to the main tanks on final approach. Both the descent and pre-landing checklists require the pilot to switch the fuel selectors to the main fuel tanks.
