Incident Overview
The airplane experienced a loss of engine power during the initial climb after takeoff, leading to a forced landing that resulted in the aircraft nosing over. According to the pilot, the engine revolutions per minute (RPM) began to decrease at approximately 400 feet above ground level (AGL). The pilot checked the carburetor heat and mixture controls, both of which were set properly. Suspecting a fuel flow issue, the pilot pumped the throttle. The fuel tanks were full, the fuel valve was turned to the right tank, and the fuel pump was on. Despite these actions, the engine stopped after 10 to 15 seconds from the onset of the problem.
Forced Landing and Outcome
The pilot landed the airplane in a field that contained a tree line, an irrigation system, and a drainage ditch. The pilot reported that the soil was soft and sandy, causing the landing gear to dig in upon touchdown. As a result, the airplane flipped over onto its back.
Post-Accident Examination
An examination of the aircraft following the incident revealed no anomalies or mechanical issues. The engine, fuel system, and other components were inspected and found to be functioning normally.
