Event Description
An accident occurred during a practice short field landing maneuver. The airplane experienced a hard landing, during which the propellers struck the ground, the wings buckled, and the firewall buckled.
Sequence of Events
The student pilot allowed the airplane to slow, resulting in an excessive sink rate. The flight instructor ordered a go-around, but the student was late in reacting. The flight instructor then attempted to compensate by pushing the throttles forward herself; however, the high sink rate could not be overcome.
Damage
The hard landing caused the propellers to strike the ground, and led to buckling of both the wings and the firewall.
