Event Description

A pilot reported that during a departure from a 2,300-foot grass strip, the airplane experienced a loss of power shortly after becoming airborne. The airplane mushed into trees at the departure end of the runway. The pilot had previously performed a preflight inspection, engine start, run-up, and magneto check, all of which revealed no anomalies.

Pilot Report

According to the pilot, the airplane performed as expected during the ground roll and initial climb. However, shortly after lift-off, the engine appeared to lose power, and the airplane was unable to maintain altitude, resulting in a collision with trees at the departure end of the strip.

Performance Analysis

The departure was conducted from a grass strip with a field elevation of 550 feet and a density altitude of 1,800 feet.
