Incident Details
The airplane was on a left downwind leg for landing on runway 30 when the pilot noted a strong 90-degree southwest crosswind. During final approach, the aircraft was in a significant sideslip configuration, with aileron hard left and right rudder applied.
As the airplane approached the runway, the left wheel touched down first. Just before the right wheel contacted the surface, a strong gust of wind from the southwest lifted the airplane back into the air. The pilot decided to abort the landing and applied full power while lowering the nose because the stall warning was sounding.
Pilot Account
According to the pilot, the airplane subsequently touched down twice in dirt and bounced twice. After these events, the pilot's only recollection was that the airplane spun around and came to a halt in a ditch.
