Accident
A tailwheel airplane nosed down on the runway during the landing roll. The accident occurred while a student pilot was receiving instruction for a tailwheel endorsement with a certified flight instructor (CFI). The flight involved practice takeoffs and landings.
Pilot Reports
The student reported that they had spent approximately one hour practicing takeoff and landings on a grass runway. The CFI noted that the student was progressing well, leading to a decision to switch to a concrete runway. The CFI reported that the second landing on the concrete runway was normal. However, as the airplane slowed during the landing roll, it nosed down despite the CFI's elevator efforts to stop it.
The CFI stated that the student pilot either over braked or the brake system was not functioning properly. The student reported, "On second landing, during rollout, either I pushed too much brake or we both pushed the same brake and the aircraft nosed over."
Post-Accident Inspection
A post-accident inspection of the airplane failed to reveal any failure or malfunction of the brake system that would have resulted in excessive braking. No other mechanical anomalies were noted.
