Incident Details
The airplane was being ferried cross-country when the weather began to deteriorate. The pilot decided to land short of the intended destination and was cleared to land on runway 26.
Sequence of Events
During the landing approach, the pilot reported that snow covering the sides of the runway made it impossible to determine the runway alignment. Upon touchdown, the airplane bounced and veered to the right. The pilot attempted to correct the deviation by applying left rudder and left brake. However, the pilot stated that the brakes were pressed too hard, causing the aircraft to nose over.
Damage
The nose-over resulted in damage to the vertical stabilizer and engine cowling, which were crushed. Additionally, the ribs in the top wing sustained substantial damage.
