Background
A private pilot was preparing to depart from a gravel airstrip for a local flight with friends. The airplane began its takeoff roll under normal conditions.
Event
As the airplane accelerated along the runway, it drifted to the left. Upon reaching the left edge of the runway, the pilot decided to abort the takeoff. The airplane then skidded off the runway to the left. During the excursion, the left main landing gear collapsed inward, and the left wing struck the ground.
Aftermath
The airplane came to rest on its nose, left main landing gear, and left wing. There were no injuries associated with the accident. A subsequent inspection revealed no mechanical anomalies with the airplane.
Conclusion
The accident was initiated when the airplane drifted left during the takeoff roll, leading to an aborted takeoff and a runway excursion. The collapse of the landing gear and wing strike occurred as the aircraft left the runway surface.
