What happened
The flight began with the aircraft positioned on runway 27 at Air Harbor Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina. During the takeoff roll, the pilot made the decision to abort the departure after the airplane had already lifted off the ground. Shortly after becoming airborne, the engine experienced a significant loss of power.
Facing an emergency situation, the pilot maneuvered the aircraft toward an adjacent field for an emergency landing. Upon touchdown in the field, the pilot executed a ground loop maneuver. This action was taken specifically to avoid colliding with an approaching truck on the ground.
The investigation
Following the incident, a thorough examination of the airplane was conducted to determine if mechanical failure contributed to the event. The inspection failed to disclose any mechanical problems or defects in the aircraft systems that would explain the power loss.
