During landing approach to runway 16, the airplane's airspeed and altitude increased about 100 feet above ground level. The pilot added full power and pulled back on the yoke, but the airplane descended hard, bounced, and exited the left side of the runway.

Accident Sequence

The airplane was about 100 feet above ground level and approximately 300 feet from the threshold of runway 16 when its airspeed and altitude began to increase. In response, the pilot pulled back on the control yoke and applied full power. Despite these inputs, the airplane descended and touched down hard on all three landing gear wheels. The landing impact caused the airplane to bounce, becoming airborne again. It then touched down a second time, rolled, and departed the left side of the runway.

A passenger on board reported that the airplane "hit the runway very hard on all three wheels" during the landing.

Weather Information

The pilot reported the wind at the time of the accident as 140 degrees at 16 knots. However, two weather observation stations in the vicinity provided differing readings. One station reported wind from 210 degrees at 10 knots, while the other reported wind from 190 degrees at 8 knots, gusting to 16 knots.
