Accident Overview
The pilot had just completed spray operations and was preparing to take two passengers to inspect a marsh area that had been sprayed. The helicopter, equipped with dual controls, prompted the pilot to caution the passengers not to touch any controls. While bringing the helicopter to a hover approximately 6 to 12 inches above the ground, the aircraft began to tilt forward.
Pilot Actions
The pilot applied aft cyclic input to correct the forward tilt, but the helicopter continued tilting forward. Attempting further aft cyclic, the pilot felt the cyclic control bind and could not move it any farther aft. In an effort to land, the pilot lowered the collective, but the helicopter then tilted to the right. The right skid contacted the ground, and the helicopter experienced a dynamic rollover.
Outcome
The helicopter came to rest on its right side, where a fire ensued. The aircraft was destroyed in the accident.
