Incident Overview
A pilot who had never visited the intended airport requested and received navigational guidance from air traffic control. Despite the assistance, the pilot confused a roadway with the landing strip and conducted the landing on the road.
Sequence of Events
After touchdown, the airplane traveled along the road surface. During the landing roll, the aircraft encountered a rise in the road, which caused it to veer to the left. The airplane then struck a series of 12 fence posts, resulting in damage to both wings and the right horizontal stabilizer. The aircraft came to a stop upright adjacent to the road.
Damage Assessment
The collision with the fence posts inflicted structural damage to both wings and the right horizontal stabilizer. No other damage was reported.
Post-Incident Status
The aircraft remained upright beside the road at the conclusion of the event.
