What happened
The pilot was performing an instrument approach to runway 6, which is an asphalt runway measuring 3,001 feet in length. During the approach, the aircraft transitioned in and out of clouds, though the pilot maintained visual contact with the runway. Approximately 600 feet above the approach end of runway 6, the pilot initiated a left turn to enter the traffic pattern for runway 24.
While on final approach at an altitude of approximately 300 feet, the pilot lost visual contact with the runway. The pilot later stated that the aircraft was too low and slow to execute a missed approach and therefore attempted to land. The Cessna touched down too far down the runway, and the pilot was unable to stop the aircraft before it departed the end of the runway. The aircraft then traveled down an embankment and collided with trees.
At the time of the accident, the weather at the airport included winds from 200 degrees at 12 knots with 18-knot gusts, 10 miles of visibility, and an overcast ceiling at 500 feet. There were no fatalities reported in this accident.
