Accident Overview
The accident involved a loss of engine power during the takeoff and initial climb. The ensuing forced landing resulted in the airplane striking a telephone service box and a fence.

The aircraft was registered to the student pilot's father. The student pilot held a third-class medical certificate issued on May 26, 1992, and had logged 8.6 hours of flight time at the time of the accident.
Post-Accident Actions
Following the accident, the student pilot departed the scene and has not responded to inquiries from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). As of the date of the investigation, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) had not received a completed Pilot/Operator Aircraft Accident Report (NTSB Form 6120.1/2).

The FAA inspector reported that the last annual inspection of the airplane was performed on June 17, 1992.
