Accident Sequence
During the landing attempt, the airplane veered off the runway and subsequently nosed over. The incident occurred after the aircraft began to drift left during the landing roll. The pilot reported that while on the downwind leg, he observed a crosswind of 25 to 30 degrees at 8 knots.
Pilot Report
According to the pilot, he initially corrected for the crosswind by applying left aileron. Despite this input, the airplane started to drift to the left. The pilot then applied right rudder and aileron in an effort to correct the drift. As these controls were applied, the pilot noted that the wheels began to squeal.
Outcome
The pilot reported that as the airplane slowed down, it turned to the left. The right wing tip struck the runway surface, and the right main landing gear wheel dug into the sod. The airplane then nosed over. No further details were provided regarding the extent of damage or any injuries.
