Accident Overview
An accident occurred when a pilot landed an airplane with the landing gear in the retracted position. After touchdown, the airplane slid to a stop, and a post-impact fire erupted. The airplane was the second to land behind a transport category aircraft, and another transport category airplane was on final approach behind it.
Pilot and Flight Details
The pilot, who had accumulated 3,806 hours of flight experience, did not extend the landing gear according to the prescribed checklist sequence. The pilot was keeping the airplane's speed up and planning to land beyond the touchdown point of the preceding transport category airplane, which contributed to the omission of the gear extension.
Probable Cause
The pilot did not extend the landing gear according to the checklist sequence while keeping the airplane's speed up and planning to land beyond the touchdown point of the preceding transport category airplane.
