Accident Details

After takeoff, the pilot felt the engine lose power, though instrument gauges indicated normal readings. To prevent stalling and reduce weight, he opened the dump gate to release the chemical load. The engine then lost complete power, prompting the pilot to search for suitable terrain for an emergency landing.

During touchdown in a plowed field, the airplane bounced back into the air and veered left, crossing several field rows. Upon the second touchdown, the main wheels crossed the plowed furrows, causing the airplane to ground loop.

Post-Accident Findings

Following the accident, the pilot discovered that prior to departure, the airplane had been refueled with Jet-A fuel instead of the required Avgas. A new employee had mistakenly filled the Avgas fuel truck with Jet-A fuel and then used that truck to refuel the aircraft.

Operator Actions

To help prevent similar occurrences, the operator has ordered new nozzles for the fueling points to better distinguish the Jet-A tank from the Avgas tank.
