Accident Details
The airplane experienced a loss of engine power during initial climb after takeoff, which led to a forced landing. During the forced landing, the airplane collided with a fence. The incident occurred after the pilot completed a takeoff from the airport.
Preflight and Fuel Information
The airplane had not been flown for approximately six weeks prior to the flight. The owner and pilot performed a thorough preflight inspection, paying special attention to the fuel samples. The pilot reported that the fuel samples were clear of water and debris. The quantity of fuel in the tanks was indicated as more than half full. However, the pilot could not recall when the fuel tanks were last filled, estimating it was also nearly six weeks earlier.
Before takeoff, the pilot operated the engine for about 20 minutes and completed all before-takeoff checks. All engine and fuel system indications were reported as normal during this time.
Aftermath
Following the forced landing, during recovery of the airplane, investigators found fuel in one fuel tank. The other fuel tank had ruptured, and there was evidence of fuel spillage on the ground beneath the aircraft.
