Incident Overview
While performing landing practice with a certified flight instructor (CFI), a student pilot touched down at an elevated speed and the aircraft bounced on the runway. In response, the CFI directed the student to execute a go-around. During the subsequent takeoff climb, the aircraft approached a tree located off the departure end of the runway.
Sequence of Events
The CFI announced, "I got it," and assumed control from the student pilot. She then attempted to maneuver the aircraft back toward the runway. Simultaneously, the student pilot pulled back on the controls. This caused the aircraft to pitch up and enter a one-quarter spin before contacting the ground in a left wing low attitude.
Pilot Experience
The CFI had accumulated 442 hours of total flight experience, of which 40 hours were as a flight instructor. The student pilot had approximately 14 hours of total flight experience, accrued over a period of 17 years.
Aircraft Examination
A post-accident examination of the airplane and engine revealed no pre-impact mechanical deficiencies.
