What happened
The pilot, who held a total of 1,133 flight hours, was conducting a landing operation on runway 31. During the ground roll phase, the aircraft began to deviate toward the left side of the pavement. Shortly after this directional change, the airplane crossed the right edge of the runway surface. The impact with the terrain caused the nose gear to collapse, resulting in the aircraft nosing over and coming to rest in a nose-low position.
Findings
A review of the meteorological data indicated that the wind at the airport was from 160 degrees at 7 knots approximately five minutes prior to the event. This suggests light winds from the south-southeast. The deviation during the landing roll led directly to the exit from the paved surface and the subsequent structural damage.
