An airplane collided with a tree during a forced landing after both engines stopped when fuel valves were closed and auxiliary pumps turned off. No mechanical failure was found.

Fuel Valve Closure and Engine Failure

The airplane was equipped with manual fuel shutoff valves, one in each engine compartment, accessible only while on the ground. These valves had been installed during construction to prevent fuel from migrating into the oil reservoir. According to the pilot, both valves were closed at the time of departure.

Shortly after takeoff, the pilot turned off both auxiliary fuel pumps. Immediately, both engines ceased operation.

Forced Landing and Collision

While maneuvering for a forced landing, the airplane collided with a tree approximately 100 feet tall and remained suspended in it.

Pilot Statement

The pilot stated that no checklist existed for the airplane that would have prevented the accident. Additionally, the pilot reported that there was no mechanical failure or malfunction in the event.
