Event Description
The pilot reported conducting an engine run-up prior to departure, during which a magneto drop was observed. Subsequent ground checks of the magnetos revealed no anomalies. The airplane departed from runway 24. When the airplane reached approximately 50 feet above ground level, the engine experienced a partial loss of power accompanied by a reduction in engine rpm. The pilot initiated a forced landing, and the airplane collided with power lines and then the ground.
Post-Accident Examination
An examination of the engine assembly and fuel system found no anomalies. The left and right magnetos were removed for further inspection. The right magneto, when turned by hand, produced a spark on all ignition towers. The left magneto did not produce an ignition spark when turned by hand.
Magneto Inspection
The left magneto was disassembled. The coil was removed, and internal oil from the coil was present on the rotor and housing. No further abnormalities were noted in the magneto components.
