Accident Details
The accident occurred during an attempted landing when the airplane stalled and impacted the airport's ramp area. The event took place while the aircraft was on short final approach, approximately 15 to 20 feet above ground level.
Sequence of Events
On short final, a gust of wind lifted the left wing and displaced the airplane from the runway's centerline. In response, the pilot moved the throttle control fully forward to obtain maximum power and execute a go-around. During this maneuver, the airplane stalled and struck the ramp tie-down area just north of the runway.
At the time of the accident, the airport's weather observation facility reported wind from 300 degrees at 13 knots, gusting to 21 knots.
Aircraft Examination
Post-accident examination of the wreckage revealed that the pitch trim was in the neutral position and the flaps were extended to 30 degrees. No preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures were identified during the examination.
