Incident Overview
On the night of 7–8 February 2006, UPS Airlines Flight 1307, a scheduled cargo service, departed from Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia, bound for Philadelphia International Airport in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The aircraft operating the flight was a McDonnell Douglas DC-8-71F.
Fire During Descent
While descending toward Philadelphia, the crew detected a cargo fire. The nature of the cargo and the exact origin of the fire were not disclosed in the initial investigation reports.
Post-Landing Destruction
The aircraft landed safely at Philadelphia International Airport. However, after landing, the fire intensified and ultimately destroyed the aircraft. The three crew members on board were able to evacuate and sustained only minor injuries. There were no fatalities.
