Event Sequence
The pilot made an initial approach to the runway. Due to traffic, a go-around was initiated. During the go-around, the landing gear was raised. The pilot then continued in the traffic pattern for another landing attempt.
Second Approach Incident
On the second approach, the pilot did not lower the landing gear. Consequently, the underside of the airplane made contact with the ground. The pilot reported that there were no mechanical deficiencies with the airplane.
Post-Event Examination
An FAA inspector examined the airplane and also found no mechanical deficiencies. The inspector's findings corroborated the pilot's report that the airplane had no issues.
Determination
The event occurred because the landing gear was not extended for the second landing. No mechanical factors were involved.
