During a landing on runway 30, the airplane veered left. After a go-around and striking a sign, the pilot landed again but found brakes inoperative, veering off the runway and hitting a taxiway sign.

Landing and Initial Veer

The pilot landed on runway 30, touching down on the centerline with 20 degrees of flaps and an airspeed of 65 knots. After a ground roll of 100 feet, the airplane suddenly veered to the left. Aileron and rudder inputs were ineffective, prompting the pilot to decide on a go-around. He applied full power and retracted 10 degrees of flaps. The airplane became airborne, but during the climb out it struck a sign.

Second Landing and Brake Failure

After a flyby to check the landing gear position, the pilot again landed on the runway centerline. About three-quarters of the way down the runway, he began to apply the brakes. He discovered that the brakes were not working. The airplane then veered off the right side of the runway and struck a taxiway sign. The airplane finally came to a stop in front of transient parking.

Wind Conditions

Reported winds were from 360 degrees at 14 knots. No gusts were reported.
