During the approach, the pilot had trimmed the airplane for a speed of 70 knots. As the airplane crossed over the runway threshold, the pilot's attention was focused outside the airplane. The airplane then experienced a high sink rate. In an attempt to arrest the descent, the pilot applied the engine throttle. However, according to the pilot, the throttle application was too late.
Outcome
The airplane's nose wheel impacted the runway. The impact caused the airplane to bounce. Subsequently, the airplane departed the runway surface. The airplane came to rest upright near the right side of the runway.
