Accident Overview
An accident involving two Beech aircraft occurred on runway 27 at an airport. The first airplane was a Beech P35; the second was a Beech K35. Both aircraft approached the airport from the north.
Pilot of the Beech P35
The pilot of the Beech P35 reported on the Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) of 123.0 MHz, stating his position, altitude, and intention to land. He completed pre-landing checks approximately half a mile from the runway 27 threshold and did not observe any other aircraft or objects on the runway. At about 10 feet above the runway, as he began the landing flare, he heard a "clunk" sound. The airplane initially seemed to begin its landing roll, but the pilot realized the airplane was still 6 to 7 feet above the runway. The airplane then started to turn right, and the pilot attempted to correct to the left. He then observed another airplane underneath his own. Both airplanes turned to the right and came to rest on the runway. The pilot of the Beech P35 did not receive any transmissions from other aircraft during approach and landing.
Pilot of the Beech K35
The pilot of the Beech K35 reported that while en route with flight following from air traffic control, he and his passenger reviewed the airport chart because it was an unfamiliar airport. The Beech K35 also approached from the north, and the pilot reported his position, altitude, and intentions on frequency 122.8 MHz. During the approach, neither the pilot nor the passenger heard any radio transmissions or saw any other aircraft in the area. The Beech K35 entered a right base for runway 27 at 8,000 feet mean sea level. The pilot landed the airplane on runway 27. Approximately one second after touchdown, the Beech P35 landed on top of the Beech K35.
