Incident
At 1634 local time, the pilot of an aircraft declared a mayday on the emergency frequency of 121.5 MHz, reporting a sudden loss of engine power and stating that he would make an off-airport landing. No further communications were received from the pilot following this transmission.
Wreckage Location and Condition
The wreckage was located approximately 10 nautical miles west of the Milledgeville Airport in Haddock, Georgia. The aircraft had struck several trees and came to rest on a magnetic heading of 163 degrees near a large open cattle pasture. The post-impact fire consumed most of the aircraft.
Investigation Findings
An examination of the airframe and engine revealed no preimpact mechanical failures or malfunctions that would have prevented the airplane and engine from operating properly. The investigation did not identify any specific cause for the reported loss of engine power.
