Event Overview
During a straight-in final approach, the pilot of a single-engine airplane experienced a sudden loss of engine power approximately 5 miles from the airport. The private pilot, who held a certificate and had logged 511 flight hours, maneuvered the aircraft toward a level open field located within the airport property.
Collision Sequence
As the airplane crossed the airport's perimeter road, it struck the top of a moving automobile. Immediately afterward, the airplane impacted a fence. No post-impact fire occurred. The pilot was able to exit the airplane unassisted following the accident.
