Event Description
According to the pilot, the flight was a short trip to a private airstrip. During the approach to landing, the pilot announced his position, reduced engine power to idle, and extended full wing flaps.
The Accident
During the landing roll out, the airplane began to drift to the left. The left wing subsequently collided with a row of trees, causing the airplane to spin around 90 degrees. After the aircraft came to a stop, the pilot shut off the fuel and all electrical power, then exited the airplane.
Post-Accident Examination
An FAA inspector examined the airplane and found that the left wing was buckled. The pilot did not report any mechanical or flight control anomalies prior to the accident.
