Incident Overview
A pilot executed an aborted landing that resulted in the aircraft nosing over after the nose landing gear snagged a barbed wire fence. The pilot had initially arrived over the destination airport and circled to inspect the grass landing strip for obstructions and assess overall field conditions. Finding the runway acceptable, he proceeded to land.
Landing and Abort
Toward the end of the landing rollout, the pilot perceived that the tires were sinking and dragging excessively. Concerned about becoming stuck, he decided to abort the landing and initiate a takeoff instead.
Collision and Outcome
After liftoff, the aircraft failed to clear a barbed wire fence located at the end of the runway. The nose landing gear tire snagged the fence, causing the airplane to nose over onto its back. The pilot reported that the airplane and engine experienced no mechanical failures or malfunctions during the flight.
