Incident Overview
The pilot of a single-engine aircraft reported that while turning onto base leg for Runway 30R, the wind was stronger than anticipated. Upon establishing on final approach, the wind caused the airplane to drift to the right of the runway centerline. The pilot began making corrections to realign with the centerline. At that point, the air traffic controller instructed the pilot to execute a go-around. As the pilot began pitching up and adding power, the controller then advised that he was cleared to land. The pilot subsequently reduced power, lowered the nose, and continued with adjustments for the crosswind.
Landing and Runway Excursion
The pilot reported that upon touchdown, the airplane bounced two or three times. A strong wind gust then caused the airplane to exit the right side of the runway. As a result of the excursion, the nose wheel collapsed aft, and the firewall sustained substantial damage.
Wind Conditions
The pilot estimated the wind as coming from 270 degrees at 12 to 14 knots, with gusts up to 18 knots.

The accident resulted in substantial damage to the firewall due to the nose wheel collapsing aft.
