Accident Description
During a soft-field takeoff, the pilot lost directional control of the airplane. The airplane veered to the left and collided with obstacles, including a sign, before coming to rest off the runway surface. At the time of the accident, the pilot was undergoing a flight review with a certified flight instructor.
Observations
Both the pilot and the certified flight instructor reported an undetermined problem with the right main landing gear prior to the loss of directional control. The airplane subsequently veered to the left, and after impacting a sign, the right main landing gear collapsed.
Post-Accident Actions
After the accident, a local aviation maintenance technician manually pulled the right main landing gear into the down-and-locked position. The airplane was then towed to the ramp area.
