Incident Overview
An airline transport pilot was conducting a personal cross-country flight in a twin-engine retractable wheel airplane. The landing was performed on a gravel-covered runway. According to the pilot, after an uneventful touchdown, the right main landing gear collapsed, followed by the left main landing gear, and finally the nose landing gear.
Damage Assessment
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the wings and fuselage of the aircraft.
Postaccident Inspection
A postaccident inspection was conducted by an FAA airworthiness inspector. The inspection revealed a fractured rod end assembly, which is part of the landing gear extension and retraction system. The inspector noted that he was unable to determine whether the fractured rod end assembly was a contributing factor in the landing gear collapse, or if the rod end fractured as a result of the landing gear collapse.
