Accident Summary
A 1946 Piper J3C-65 aircraft experienced a partial loss of engine power approximately 100 feet above ground level after departing from a private field. The pilot, unable to restore takeoff power, executed a right turn to avoid nearby houses. During the turn, the aircraft impacted trees.
Pilot Actions
Following the partial power loss, the pilot attempted to restore engine power but was unsuccessful. To prevent collision with residential structures, a right turn was initiated. The maneuver resulted in the aircraft colliding with trees.
Engine Examination
A post-accident examination of the engine revealed no evidence of any preimpact mechanical deficiencies. The engine was subsequently started and operated continuously on the airframe for 4 to 5 minutes without any abnormalities being noted.
